Elizabeth Creamery

If you are like me and remember going out for homemade ice cream as a kid, you may have wondered where to find those delicious small creameries popular some years ago. With the consumption of frozen yogurt on the rise it has become increasingly difficult to find that extra-special dairy treat. Elizabeth Creamery is definitely one of Charlotte’s well kept secrets.

A family owned business, Elizabeth Creamery is a husband/wife operation with Mr. Kim in charge of his original ice cream recipes and Mrs. Kim making the cones. Offering nearly 50 homemade ice cream flavors, you can taste the freshness in each bite. Of course they offer traditional flavors like strawberry and chocolate but you will also find unique varieties like cinnamon apple, mint oreo, red bean, green tea, ginger and smurf.

I recommend the praline. It is incredibly creamy with loads of caramel and praline nuts, you are sure to leave satisfied. The almond amaretto is much lighter with the flavor more subtle; not as sweet but a terrific choice. The mint oreo is also a winner, super minty and crunchy, you can’t go wrong. Warning, you must try a waffle cone. The malt flavor of the cone is really flavorful and hard to put down.

They also offer milkshakes, malts, smoothies, pies and five unique ice cream pie offerings.
The ice cream here is simple. With 99% of ingredients natural (according to Mr. Kim), this attributes to the ice cream’s high quality and freshness. The other factor is that the ice cream is only frozen once, whereas in chain shops the product is generally made off-site requiring shipping to the final location. The shipping of the product from freezer to freezer causes the mix to partially defrost. This changes the overall quality and taste of the mix.

Elizabeth Creamery is definitely a Stephy’s budget gourmet pick, as you could feed a family of four for under $20.
If I have not been clear, visit Elizabeth Creamery!! You are sure to enjoy no-frills old-fashioned delicious ice cream!
